AMBROSE MATCHPLAY
Is a pairs game in which all players tee off and then each team decides which ball is in the best position and marks the location. Each team member then places their balls within 30cm of the selected ball, no nearer the hole.
The team hit their next stroke from this position. Play continues in this manner until the hole is completed.
On the putting surface all balls must be placed and putted from within 10 cm (the width of most Putter Heads) from where the selected ball lies. Balls must not be placed closer to the hole.
The team who scores the lowest score (inclusive of handicaps) wins the hole. Should players from each team tie for the best score, the hole is halved.
Team Handicaps:
Are determined by the sum of the teams combined SLOPE Handicaps then divided by 4.
Example:
“Player A” (28) + “Player B” (17) 28 + 17 = 45 Divided 4 = 11.25
Team Handicap is 11
Important Rule:
Each team must take a minimum of five tee shots (x5) from each player and these must be recorded on the scorecard accordingly.
Failure to comply will result in the match being forfeited.
AMERICAN ALTERNATES MATCHPLAY
Is a pairs game were both players tee off on all holes, following the tee shots both Players will then play a second stroke using their partners ball.
Teams will then decide which ball is in the best position and the other ball is taken out of play. Play then continues on an “Alternate” shot basis until the hole is completed. (Incurring a penalty shot does not affect the order of play)
The order of play must be maintained through to completion of the hole. Penalty for not maintaining the order of play = Loss of Hole.
Example:
If “Player A” hits the selected 3rd shot, then “Player B” will hit the next shot or vice versa.
Team Handicaps:
Are determined by the sum of the teams combined SLOPE handicaps divided by 2.
Example:
“Player A” (28) + “Player B” (12) 28 + 12 = 40 Divided by 2 = 20.0
Team Handicap is 20
Important Note:
No minimum tee shots are required in this format
SINGLES MATCHPLAY
Is a match in which one Player competes against another Player.
A player wins the Match when he is Up by more holes than there are holes remaining to play.
Before play commences Players will be required to agree on which holes his opposing man is eligible for shots based on handicap differential, this should be marked on each Players scorecard.
Handicaps will be determined by subtracting the lowest SLOPE handicap from the highest and the difference will then translate into the number of Holes the individual Player will have on the course as per the “Matchplay Index”.
Example:
C. COLEMAN (17) vs. N. MURDOCH (3)
(17 – 3 = 14) COLEMAN will be awarded +14 Shots over MURDOCH and these will be allocated on the Matchplay Index holes 1 to 14
Important Note:
Captains will always play as the Final Group known as the “Captains Group” it is the only Match in the Governors Cup that is predetermined
